But Iceland is much more than Northern Lights.

Day 6: Glacier Walk & Independent Exploration in/near Vik
Discover why glacier walks are one of the most popular outdoor activities in Iceland on our guided, easy Glacier Walk (approximately 3 hours total). Your guide will instruct you on how to use the basic and required glacier equipment that are provided, like crampons and an ice axe. Once you step onto the ice field it will feel as if you have been transported to an icy, foreign planet. As you walk through a wonderland of glacial ice sculptures, ice ridges and deep crevasses on the glacier, you will witness stunning scenery as far as the eye can see. In this glacial wonderland, you’ll find blue ice, crevasses and amazing ice formations that will leave you in awe. |
You’ll return to your Vik hotel where you can relax this afternoon or take advantage of other fun activities that can be arranged optionally at your expense in the area such as riding Icelandic horses along the beach, ziplining, tandem paragliding, or a beautiful beach walk.

Day 7: Vatnajokull National Park: Svartifoss Waterfall, Glacier Lagoon & Diamond Beach
This morning after a short drive we’ll walk to Svartifoss Waterfall--Black Waterfall--surrounded by dark lava columns, which gave rise to its name. We’ll stop for a hot lunch in a cozy location while enjoying a view of the surrounding countryside. On we go to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, dotted with crystal-blue icebergs, said to be one of the greatest wonders of nature in Iceland. This lagoon is a recent one, the result of a warming climate. |
The surface is at sea level and seawater flows into the lagoon at high tide. Huge blocks of ice constantly break off the glacier Breiðamerkurjökull, and large icebergs float on the lagoon. The lagoon is not very wide but it is up to 250 meters deep which makes it the deepest lake in Iceland. If you're lucky, you might even see some seals.
We’ll make a stop at nearby Diamond Beach where the broken pieces of glacial ice look like diamonds on the black sand. Want to taste the 1000 year old ice? It's fresh and clean.
It’s back to Vik for the night where you’ll want to put in a request with the hotel to be notified if the Northern Lights are on display! Dinner with wine included.

Day 8: Golden Circle & Return to Reykjavik
This morning we begin our easy journey back to Reykjavik, first visiting the Golden Circle and Strokkur Geyser, which erupts every 10 minutes. Stop at Gullfoss Waterfall, one of the most photographed spots in all of Iceland. We’ll make a visit to Fridheimar Tomato Farm, where we include a delicious and hearty lunch in the greenhouse. This geothermal, sustainable, family-owned farm is fascinating, and smells and feels like summer all year. Meet the Icelandic horses there, a compact, protected breed. Icelandic horses are long-lived and hardy. In their native country they have few diseases, therefore Icelandic law prevents horses from being imported into the country and exported animals are not allowed to return. Ready for a relaxing and authentic Icelandic hot spring experience? We’ve got you covered! Located in the small village called Fludir in the Golden Circle area, the Secret Lagoon has kept the pool natural and unique so guests can get the true Icelandic feeling. The pool’s natural surroundings and steam rising into the air gives the place a magical feeling. The warm water stays at 100-104°F all year. There are several geothermal spots and a little Geysir which erupts every 5 minutes, showing off for the guests relaxing in the hot spring. In this tranquil state we’ll continue on to Reykjavik. We'll share our favorite travel moments over an included Farewell Dinner tonight with wine. B, L, D |

Exclusions:
The Northern Lights are a natural phenomena dependent upon weather and other conditions. From mid-October through March, they often dance across the night sky. When active, they are best viewed away from light pollution. On this itinerary, we provide many opportunities to hunt the night skies away from the city lights, but we cannot and do not guarantee you will see the Northern Lights. |
